About the run

Sometime in 2009, Nick, an auditor, was sitting in a pub with his mates when one of them daRED him to run through peak hour traffic in a speedo.

“That sounds like a dare I could do,” Nick thought. And so he chatted to his connections at Etana Insurance, who he’d heard were always up for something daring. Together they gatheRED up a couple hundRED guys, put them in speedos, sent them off into afternoon traffic and turned the event into a cause for cancer.

This is the third year of what has now become an annual event, and now it’s time for these brave men to take to the streets again, joined by thousands of other speedo-clad compadres from across South Africa. Etana’s third daREDevil run will take place on the afternoon of 4 November 2011 along a short route through the streets of Parktown in Johannesburg.

This year, men of all shapes and sizes in Durban and Cape Town are also joining the fun, putting aside the commonly-held belief that speedos are uncool to focus on bigger issues.

We’re aiming to get at least 2000 runners take part in each city – which will also go down in the Guinness Book of World Records™ as the largest gathering of speedo-clad men in one place, effectively spreading the message of the run beyond the borders of South Africa and ensuring that men around the world are alerted to the dangers of testicular and prostate cancer. Last year we managed to break the world record, and we’re going to do it again this year.

The more men who take part, the stronger this global message will be, while most of the registration money will go towards cancer charities. The response to previous daREDevil runs has been phenomenal – visit our gallery and check out a great selection of photos from the previous events.
